Capture Oakville 2012

admin • November 24, 2012

Well………it was quite a night.  Back to back hockey followed by a brief defrosting and then I headed over to the awards ceremony at Oakville Town Hall for Capture Oakville 2012.  This is an annual competition that I often enter.  It encourages me to take risks, step outside my comfort zone and meet new people.  Awards night is always fun.  I love the creative energy and absolutely love strolling the hallways admiring the work of so many talented photographers.  I was honoured this year to receive two awards….second place in the Fine Art category for an image that I created this past summer.  It all started when every time I heard the song by Gotye……Somebody that I used to know, all I could think about was dancing marionettes.  Next time you hear it, just imagine, when you hear the da da da da dana na na na da da…………….dancing marionettes.  You will thank me later for that…….you will never hear that  song the same way again.  The second award I received was First Place in the Macro category for an image called “A bugs life”.  This image was taken in the summer as well, as the boys were lounging in the pool, and I was acting as distracted life guard.  I was captivated by this fly who just did not move.  The judges at the competition were asking me how I photoshopped the pin out, but honestly, this fly, just DID NOT MOVE.  I guess flies get lethargic in the heat too.

Back to black. Nature inspired me to create some new work. Going back to black to make the colours pop, I worked with an amazing seamstress to create this skirt intended to resemble leaves.
